County housing study reaches out to seniors
2/29/2024 |
As part of its efforts to understand where people are living and how and why, the Schoharie County Housing Committee has added a survey specifically for seniors.
The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SchoharieSeniorSurvey.
Paper copies are also available from the Schoharie County Office for the Aging, 113 Park Place, Schoharie, (518) 295-2001.
Responses should be submitted by April 15.
With funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission and through the Department of Social Services, LaBella Associates began looking at Schoharie County’s housing needs last July.
In January, the Housing Committee held a public meeting to gather input on the county’s longterm housing needs; the senior survey is an effort to understand those specific needs.
The Housing Committee encourages all seniors, family members, caregivers and related organizations to take the survey, which is specifically designed to capture “the housing conditions and needs of seniors in Schoharie County,” both of those living here or considering moving here.
Results of LaBella’s work and surveys could be used to apply for housing grants.
LaBella plans to: provide an inventory of current housing, develop a forecast of population growth and housing demand, identify the market and unmet needs, inventory nursing, independent and assisted living facilities; and develop a strategy to address longterm needs.
