Locomotions to mark first year with party, expansion

Two landmark events are coming to Locomotions Sports Bar and Grill in Cobleskill:
•Owner Steve Meyers is expanding the popular spot on Railroad Avenue.
•And Mr. Meyers is celebrating his first anniversary of owning Locomotions with a community party Saturday, June 15.
His first year as owner has been successful, which may have led to his expansion plans.
“My customers’ biggest complaint is that we’re too busy and there’s not enough room,” Mr. Meyers said.
“I’ve outgrown this place.”
He’s started a two-story addition on the back that will have more space on the ground floor and another bar on the second floor, along with a 16x70-foot outdoor deck.
The upstairs bar will have couches and chairs for a more relaxed setting for parties and gatherings.
“Things have been good,” Mr. Meyers said. “I’ve been very lucky, and I’ve had great support from my wife and family.
“It’s been a lot easier than I anticipated but a lot more than I thought.”
His block party on the 15th will have Railroad Avenue blocked off and will also be held in the Division Street parking lot. Village officials gave their approval for both in April.
Starting at noon, there will be a bounce house, dunking booth, snow cones and cotton candy, face painting, a mechanical bull and discounted hot dogs and hamburgers. Brian Keller will be the DJ.
Mr. Meyers also has a license for an outdoor bar for the day.
“I’m just trying to give back,” he said.
The party is in conjunction with the nearby American, whose owner, Hannah Grass, is celebrating her 11th year in business.
She’ll have the band Mixed Tape Revival playing on the American porch from noon to 4pm.
Mr. Meyers will have the band Crossfire performing from 4pm to 8pm.
“It’s something I’d like to do every year,” he said. “The community should get together and do something like this.”
