Town clerks across New York State—and Schoharie County—are gearing up for problems and complaints over changes to DEC hunting and fishing licenses.
Town Clerks will now be required to print the licenses on their own printers with their own ink—on 8½ x 5 sheets of “regular” paper, said Schoharie Town Clerk Pam Foland Wednesday.
Or, the licenses can be emailed.
“We were told any good resident wouldn’t print more than one,” Ms. Foland said, skeptically.
Thursday, Middleburgh Town Clerk Renee Schmidt repeated the same story.
“They’re going to be taking our [DEC-provided] printer,” with the switch-out happening sometime between July 15-23, Ms. Schmidt said. “They’ve been preparing us that it’s coming.”
Ms. Schmidt said she’d like to find some way to make the paper licenses more durable, maybe with a different type of paper and Town Supervisor John Youmans suggested the town could laminate the licenses.
“I think the hunters and fishermen are going to be upset when I send them out the door with a piece of paper,” Ms. Schmidt added.
“One drop of water and that ink’s going to run.”
