Hams invite fans to Carlisle Field Days
6/24/2024 |
Members of the Schoharie Amateur (Ham) Radio Operators will be participating in the annual Field Days beginning at 2pm on Saturday, June 22 and concluding at 2pm on Sunday, June 23.
This year the Radio Club will, thanks to the assistance of the Town of Carlisle, set up their operations at the pavilion next to the Town Hall on Crommie Road.
Each year, ham radio operators throughout North America set up temporary field radio communications systems in public places.
The objective is to serve as a practice, or drill, to evaluate their ability to establish emergency communication stations.
The program is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), a national organization dedicated to promoting the hobby of amateur radio.
The object of the exercise is to establish contact with as many other ham radio stations in as many different locations as possible within the 24-hour session.
To make the drill a little more challenging and enjoyable, clubs are awarded points in several categories designed to provide them with quantitative feedback on their success.
Members of the community are invited to visit.
