County extends Haz Mit survey deadline

6/28/2024

Schoharie County has extended the deadline for a survey on its Hazard Mitigation Plan through at least July 15.
The survey is available on the Schoharie County homepage at https://www4.schohariecounty-ny.gov/.
Hard copies of the survey have been dropped off at all Town and Village Halls in Schoharie County.
Everyone’s encouraged to fill out the survey, which asks 28 questions about county and local hazard mitigation efforts.
Hazard mitigation planning reduces loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters and is key to breaking the cycle of disaster damage and reconstruction.
It begins with residents, visitors, and governments identifying common natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities.
Then, long-term strategies are developed to protect people and property from similar events.
The plan update is also required for municipalities to remain eligible for certain types of hazard mitigation funding in the future.
The survey asks such questions as “How prepared do you feel your community is to withstand potential natural disaster events?,” “In the past 10 years, which types of hazards have you experienced?” “In the event your home becomes uninhabitable, do you have a place to stay…?” and “Which of the following steps has your household taken to prepare for a local hazard event?”
