Whitbeck convicted on rape charges

Robert Whitbeck Jr., 51, of Cobleskill, has been found guilty of multiple charges in connection with his July 1, 2023 arrest for rape.
Whitbeck was convicted by a Schoharie County jury of rape and attempted rape stemming from two separate attacks after the week-long trial, prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Stephen Goble.
He was found to have applied pressure to the survivor’s throat and prevented the survivor from leaving during his attack and also, that he continued to contact the survivor despite an order of protection.
He was remanded to the Schoharie County Jail until his sentencing on August 19.
Whitbeck was found guilty of:
• Criminal sexual act in the first degree, a Class B violent felony.
• Attempted rape in the first degree, a Class C violent felony.
• Rape in the third degree, a Class E felony.
• Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a Class A misdemeanor.
• Unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
• Ten counts of criminal contempt in the second degree, Class A misdemeanors.
