Planned for more than a year, improvements are coming to Cobleskill’s Nick Iorio Park.
The village has draft plans for the project, and work will begin this summer and fall, Mayor Becky Stanton-Terk announced Tuesday night.
Village crews will dismantle and remove the wooden Imagination Creation playground, which is deemed unsafe.
“A new more accessible playground with soft surface will take its place hopefully in early fall,” Mayor Stanton-Terk said.
The old playground will be fenced in in September and removed.
A $400,000 state grant will pay for the playground work.
Mayor Stanton-Terk hopes that a 20-by-30-foot pavilion will be built this year, too.
Additional plans include volleyball, basketball and pickleball courts, concrete skate park, an asphalt story walk, new rec center, more parking and a splash pad may be added to the pool area, Mayor Stanton-Terk read from a long statement.
It’s been her wish for several years to move the courts and skate park from Teen Town to Iorio Park to centralize services and make them safer.
“The Board of Trustees will continue to apply for grant funding to accomplish these goals but fully intends to forge ahead and budget for this expansion regardless,” Mayor Stanton-Terk read.
