The Joshua Project will move ahead on its building in East Cobleskill.
The Cobleskill Town Planning Board gave its approval after the Schoharie County Planning Commission approved the plans with recommended modifications.
“That’s what I’m told,” Joshua Project President Pat Costello said Tuesday.
The all-volunteer organization has helped needy local families with food, furniture and support for more than a decade. It’s never had a home, however, and has goods stored in barns and homes.
The 40-by-100-foot building will have a warehouse, office, conference room, bathroom, walk-in freezers and coolers.
Joshua Project volunteers run several food programs, along with free furniture for needy families and Christmas gifts for kids who otherwise would have none. All those supplies can be stored in the new building.
And because the Joshua Project serves all of the county, the location––right in the center and on or near major routes––is ideal.
Mr. Costello said planning the construction should start this week.
“This is good. We’re all set,” he said. “I’m hopeful that we’ll have a building this year. It’s been a long road.”
