Sharon picks name for DAR paver

The Town of Sharon has made its pick for its paver on the Patriot Pathway:
Sergeant John Ludwig Kling, born in Germany in 1748, but a resident of Sharon when it was in Tryon—not Schoharie--County.
Back in February, the Schoharie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution kicked off plans to sell 500 pavers for a display in front of their Lasell Hall, part of an effort timed to coincide with America 250, a celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2025.
Pavers are still available.
Small pavers are $50; larger ones are $100.

The Town of Sharon bought a $100 paver for Sgt. Kling, 1748-1826, and a member of Colonel Clyde’s 1st Tryon Co. Militia.
Supervisor Sandy Manko, part of a team of Sharon Historical Society volunteers who complied a list of local cemeteries and graves in 2007, said Sgt. Kling’s stone was found in the middle of a field near Slate Hill Cemetery—where there’s also a stone for him.
It’s believed that the grave was moved and a new stone erected in the cemetery, she said.
“I don’t want any of these graves forgotten, but especially, not veterans’ graves.
“They died, they gave their lives, so we could enjoy the freedom we have today,” Ms. Manko said.
To date, the DAR has commitments for 90 of the smaller pavers and 51 of the larger ones with a goal or 500 or more.
The pavers can honor any Revolutionary patriot—they don’t have to be from Schoharie County—and the DAR has a list of patriots available if anyone needs help in picking one.
