Seward: Chicken heads here, duck heads there

Nasty dogs and buckets of blood.
Not related, but both topics of concerns in the Town of Seward.
Code Enforcement Officer Cliff Dorrough reported Monday on an ongoing situation at an unnamed place in the hamlet of Hyndsville where neighbors called in complaints of chickens and ducks being slaughtered—something he said isn’t permitted there.
Mr. Dorrough said he was there when the Health Department investigated Friday.
“Chicken heads here, duck heads there, buckets of blood and flies,” he said—though the owner insisted he hadn’t been killing anything there and the Health Department said he’s not selling to the public.
Mr. Dorrough said he’ll be back when the Health Department returns this Friday.
If the situation isn’t remedied, he said, the owner will get a ticket for a court appearance.
Neighbors have photos and videos of the mess, he said, but that’s considered “hearsay,” and can’t be used to make the town’s case.
The nasty dog situation involved a dog-on-dog attack, Supervisor Earlin Rosa said.
The attacked dog’s owner came to the town with a $303.50 vet bill, he said, but as of Monday, they hadn’t hard anything from Dog Control Officer Morgan Kraemer.
“Once again, in our county, we have dog attacks not being followed up,” Mr. Rosa said, noting there’s a study underway to consider the possibility of creating a county-wide DCO with the ability to seize dogs and issue tickets.
