A retiring New York State Police investigator will share his skills this coming school year with the next generation of law enforcers at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center.
Darin Jones will be the CTE Criminal Justice teacher on the Schoharie Campus, preparing high school juniors and seniors for careers in law enforcement, security and the military.
He retires from the state police on August 31 and will greet his first class of students on September 5.
“Throughout my career in law enforcement, I have had many interactions with students in multiple school districts….I always enjoyed conversing with the students about how rewarding a career it has been for me,” said Investigator Jones.
Investigator Jones, who is retiring as an investigator with the state violent crime investigative team based in New York State Police Troop G Headquarters, has previously served as a liaison with multiple school districts and educated students on illegal drug use and traffic safety.
He also conducted canine demonstrations and demonstrations of the polygraph examination process.
During his career, he has served as a field training officer, K9 handler, polygraph examiner, bureau of criminal investigations investigator and trooper and obtained the rank of sergeant in 2017.
He is a graduate of SUNY Schenectady County Community College and SUNY Cobleskill
Investigator Jones said he is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and wealth of experiences with students.
“I am excited to take on a new and rewarding role, where I can continue utilizing the skills and experiences I’ve acquired over the past two decades as a law enforcement professional,” he said.
“I have been fortunate enough to have had great training and to have received valuable skills that continue to guide me in everyday life. I would like to share my experiences that I have learned with the youth of today, who are interested in the rewarding criminal justice career path.”
