Long ride for Eminence kids

As school opening approaches, long bus rides for students again became a concern for Cobleskill-Richmondville.
But this time the concern came from a school board member.
As Monday’s meeting closed down, member Aimee Yorke, questioned the bus time for kids in Eminence, on the edge of the district in Summit.
Ms. Yorke said she no longer has children in elementary school, but other Eminence families do.
C-R notified those families, Ms. Yorke said, that students leaving Radez School at 2:15pm would get to Eminence after 4pm.
“If elementary students in grades three to five are on a bus for over 90 minutes, there are going to be behavioral problems. . .and maybe bladder problems,” Ms. Yorke said.
“There’s got to be a solution.”
Superintendent Matt Sickles said the issue is a shortage of bus drivers, a problem common to all districts.
C-R is a large district and with a limited number of drivers, buses are making only one run.
“We’ll continue to talk,” Mr. Sickles said, adding that it’s possible a solution may be found.
