Republicans gear up for campaigns

Schoharie County Republicans on Sunday kicked their November campaigns into gear.
About 350 party members gathered at Gobbler’s Knob at Shad Point for the 77th annual chicken barbecue and clambake and an opportunity to rally for candidates.
“We probably had a record crowd or close to it,” said Assemblyman Chris Tague, also the Schoharie County Republican chairman.
“We had a lot of new people who are politically active.”
They’re active especially for Congressman Elise Stefanik, who’s seeking re-election and was a key speaker at the barbecue.
Also present was US Senate candidate Mike Sapraicone and many other local officeholders and regional Republican Party leaders.
All were there for a reason, according to Assemblyman Tague.
“Our country and state at a crossroads,” he said.
One New York issue Mr. Tague highlighted was affordability.
“People can’t afford to live here with the inflation and high cost of living,” he said.
Mr. Tague also scored Democrats on spending money on immigrants “but we have veterans sleeping in the streets.
“It’s affecting everyday Americans.”
He blamed left-wing Democrats for the problems, adding that moderate Democrats “have no place at the table.
“They’re coming to us, and we welcome them with open arms.”
