Cudmore to present new book

8/29/2024

Cobleskill Author Dana Cudmore will discuss his newest book, “The Cave Electrician’s Widow: The Tragedy at Howe Caverns & Dramatic Courtroom Fight for Justice” on Sunday, September 8 at the Cave House Museum of Mining and Geology. Mr. Cudmore’s presentation will begin at 2pm.
The book details the April 24, 1930, deaths by asphyxiation of two men in Howe Caverns and the trial alleging negligence that followed. The hour-long program includes a short reading from the December 1931 trial, plus a Q and A session.
Signed copies of the book will be available. Profits from the sale benefit the Cave House Museum, at 136 Blowing Road, Howes Cave, adjacent to the Howes Cave quarry.
Both the Cave House and quarry are key settings in “The Cave Electrician’s Widow.”
As a nonprofit, NYS-chartered educational institution, the Cave House Museum promotes an understanding of the importance geology and mining plays in our lives. Donations are graciously accepted.
This lecture replaces the presentation originally scheduled for this date on the Cave House Museum’s published “2024 (Summer) Open House Schedule”. The lecture on “Middle Devonian Extinction Events in Eastern New York” has been rescheduled for June 2025. Visit the Museum’s Facebook page (@cavehouse) regularly for event and future Museum volunteer requests.
If you would like to see the Cave House Museum open frequently, please consider volunteering. Current programs are solely run by the Museum’s Board of Trustees. Enthusiastic Volunteers are needed to assist with public and school tours, organize and maintain the collections, assist the weekend and open house programs, etc. Meet with a Museum Trustee on September 8th and learn how you can assist the Museum’s mission in 2025.
The Museum will be open September 8 from noon-4pm. The presentation will begin at 2pm. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring your fossils and rocks for the Museum’s geologists to identify.
