Greenbush Hill closed for culvert repair

Cobleskill’s Greenbush Hill Road will be closed for a couple of months while a culvert is being replaced.
Work began in August to stabilize erosion along a stream that runs into Smith Reservoir, according to Brendon Becker of Lamont Engineers, who designed the project.
Mr. Becker credited Soil and Water Conservation District Director Pete Nichols with identifying the problem.
A culvert had been washed out during flooding years ago, and a replacement culvert was not only too small, but also wasn’t aligned properly with the stream, Mr. Becker said.
“It just shot the water right into the bank,” causing further erosion, he added.
“A flood just completely washed it out.”
Contractors will pour a new concrete culvert that will line up with the stream.
The Village of Cobleskill ARPA––about $800,000––will pay for the project.
The village will also have that portion of Greenbush Hill Road repaved, and the Town of Cobleskill will repave a further stretch of the same road.
Mr. Becker said the project should be done about the end of October.
