Cobleskill still arguing over snowplowing

The Village and Town of Cobleskill remain at odds over a charge for snowplowing village streets.
Village trustees Tuesday rejected the latest offer from the town––an increase of $35,000 for the work
The offer came in the form of a proposed contract, and after a half-hour executive session––because of possible litigation––“the village is declining the contract,” Mayor Stanton-Terk said.
The contract was a steep reduction in the original proposal, which would have had the village pay the town an additional $74,000 for snowplowing and other services.
Deputy Town Supervisor RJ Mallery said in September that the increase was necessary because there are fewer Highway Department employees and there’s more work to do.
Mr. Mallery said, the increase probably stemmed also from higher costs of sand, salt and other supplies.
But Mayor Stanton-Terk and trustees were firm Tuesday night.
“We feel residents pay their fair share” in town taxes and “shouldn’t be charged more,” Mayor Stanton-Terk said.
She added that Village Attorney Michelle Storm would reach out to town officials.
