Sharon names Ken Kelly justice

The Town of Sharon has named veteran—and Sharon Springs Central School grad—Ken Kelly—as its new justice.
Mr. Kelly will replace justice and former Schoharie County Sheriff and town supervisor, Tony Desmond, who died October 23.
Mr. Kelly will be attending classes in December and will take over for Carlisle Richard Smith, who’s been filling in in the post.
Mr. Kelly is an Air Force veteran, serving 22 years, before retiring from the service in 2017 and going to work as a Target engineer.
He grew up in Sharon and introducing himself to the Sharon Town Board, pointed out that Councilman Dave Cross used to be his bus driver.
Before Mr. Desmond’s death, Mr. Kelly said he’d been working closely with him and handled court security.
“We both talked about the importance of serving the community,” he said. “This seems like a good opportunity to learn.”
