Election Law changes means packed November ballot

3/20/2025

Changes in New York State Election Law will see most Schoharie County supervisors on the November ballot for one-year terms as part of an effort to move elections to even-numbered years.
Because the supervisor term in the Towns of Sharon and Middleburgh are for four years, they’re the only ones not on the ballot.
Also impacted are some councilman and highway superintendent seats.
The change doesn’t impact village offices or town justices; the local county-level seats of Sheriff and District Attorney are already on the ballot for four years, and two County Coroner positions are on the ballot for three-year terms.
According to the Board of Elections:
• An office with a two-year term will be on the November ballot for a one-year term ending in 2026.
• An office with a four-year term will be elected to a three-year term ending in 2028.
