No timeline yet for old jail housing

Schoharie County’s Housing Committee is still waiting on CSD Housing to develop a site plan for the old jail, something the developers need before submitting whatever it turns out to be to the Village of Schoharie Planning Board.
It’s premature to give supervisors a timeline, CSD’s director of Program Development told Housing Committee chair Earlin Rosa in an April 9 email that Mr. Rosa shared with the Board of Supervisors Friday.
That’s because while the state’s Office of Homes and Community Renewal had no comments on the fact that 157 Depot Lane is in a 100-year flood plain—plans call for taking any project out of the flood plain--CSD is now addressing comments related to the fact that the site is in a historic district and adjacent to farmland.
“While it will take some extra time to secure letters from…DEC and SHPO, we expect no issues,” Mr. Newman wrote.
While awaiting HCR’s environmental clearance, CSD will begin survey work to determine limits of flood plain remediation, Mr. Newman said; he expects the surveyor to be on-site within the next week or two.
“Based on the survey results, our flood plain civil engineer consultant can then begin working on preliminary design documents, retaining wall design, and fill etc., and engage FEMA to review.”
Plans are to develop the site for affordable and mixed use housing.
