School budgets on the ballot Tuesday

5/16/2025

Schools across New York State will go to the polls next Tuesday, May 20, to decide on 2025-26 budgets, fill school board seats, and decide on a variety of propositions.
Voting hours vary by school district.

Middleburgh
The proposed Middleburgh Central School budget totals $25.1 million.
It increases spending by .80 percent or $200,000, and includes a tax levy increase of 1.5 percent or $156,144.
Voters will also be asked to approve the $8.1 million capital project, which will use state grants and $2 million from the MCSD Capital Reserve Fund for more than a dozen repairs and facilities improvements.
If approved, the capital project would have no impact on the tax levy.
Voters will also be asked to approve the purchase of two 65-passenger busses with a total not to exceed $484,000; and approve the transfer of funds not to exceed $600,000 to the Repair Reserve Fund.
Finally, they’ll elect two school board members.
Candidates appearing on the ballot are incumbent Vicki Hoerz and Wes Andrew.
Voting will take place from noon-9pm in the Junior/High School Gym Lobby.

Schoharie
Schoharie Central School voters are being asked to approve a $28.3 million 25-26 budget.
The budget is up 2.35 percent or $649,738, and would increase taxes by 2.95 percent.
Voters will also select three members for the school board, decide on a bus purchase proposition, and vote on a proposition to support the Schoharie Free Library.
Voting takes place in the Junior/Senior High School Gym from noon-8pm.
School board candidates are Tara Barton and Daniel Guasp, who are seeking re-election, and Emily Gigandet.
School board President Terry Burton is not seeking re-election.
The bus proposition is seeking approval to purchase two 66-passenger busses, not to exceed $340,000; the library proposition would increase that tax levy from $146,000 to $161,000 a year.

Sharon Springs
Sharon Springs Central School voters are being asked to approve an $11,481,111 budget with a tax levy increase of three percent.
Sofia Issa is running unopposed for her own seat on the school board.
Also on the ballot is a proposition to approve the purchase of a school vehicle at a cost of no more than $85,000.
Voters will
also be asked to approve an Energy Performance Project and a Capital Improvements Project for building and infrastructure upgrades at a maximum cost of $3.7 million with no additional tax burden.
Voting will be from noon-9pm in the Auditorium Atrium.

Cobleskill-Richmondville
Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School is proposing a $48 million budget with a tax levy increase of 2.55 percent.
There are four candidates for two school board seats.
Incumbent Jason Gagnon is running again; newcomers Amy Kennedy, Maxwell Horning, and Sarah Nies are also running.
Also on the budget is a proposition to appropriate $475,200 for the Community Library; Denise Klug is running for a library board seat. There are no candidates for the other two open library board seats.
Voting will be from 9am-9pm at the High School.
