Some of the top folk musicians in the region will be in Cobleskill for the Golding Park Café’s fifth fall season.
The Café gets into full swing this Friday, with doors opening at 6:45 and music starting at 7:30.
The Café is sponsored by Cobleskill Partnership Inc. and is a smokeless, alcohol-less venue started by CPI in 2003.
“We kind of amazed ourselves that we’ve been going that long,” said Brian Kaiser, CPI treasurer who helps coordinate the Café and signs the musicians.
“We’ve had a lot of help from a lot of people and good support from the community.”
The performers this Friday are Sara Milonovich and Greg Anderson, an acoustic guitar and fiddle duo who play Celtic and American traditional tunes.
Five more acts will follow, each on Friday nights:
October 26, Sara Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion play country, folk and rock; Ms. Guthrie is Arlo Guthrie’s daughter.
November 2, Natalie Zukerman, who combines soul, jazz and blues.
November 9, Nightingale, a trio playing traditional music from France, Ireland, Quebec and Newfoundland.
November 16, Tim Grimm, an award-winning singer and songwriter who plays roots music.
November 23, Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman, a national duo who play everything from country to jazz.
“It’s a nice season. We have something for everyone,” said Mr. Kaiser. “We have a variety of some really, really good musicians.”
CPI’s intent with the Café is to not only provide live music with its spring and fall series but also to bring people to downtown Cobleskill and visiting local restaurants and businesses.
It has a strong local following, Mr. Kaiser said, and advertises in regional publications and folk-music magazines, in addition to having a website.
And generally every year, inquiries come from outside the immediate area about what’s going on in Cobleskill. The same was true this year, and Mr. Kaiser responded to the requests.
“They found the Café by Googling and wanting to discover something going on,” he said. “It is having the intended effect of bringing people in.
“And we have a strong loyal core of people who come to every performance. The Café is getting stronger every year.”
Food and beverages are available at the Café. The Café offers memberships that give discounts on admission charges and a free guest ticket.
