Cobleskill thanks veterans

Veterans will always have a special place in Cobleskill’s and Schoharie County’s hearts, they heard again and again Sunday at ceremonies in Memorial Park.
Close to 100 people, including Scouts and local vets’ and auxiliary groups took part in the Veteran’s Day event.
Speakers included Jim Hitchcock of Stamford in the role of Abe Lincoln and Assemblyman Pete Lopez.
Cobleskill Supervisor Mike Montario, an Army veteran, welcomed the crowd, saying there was no greater honor for him than being there to do that.
County Attorney Mike West presented remarks he’d worked on for more than a month, pointing out he didn’t serve in the military, but will always be indebted to those who did.
County treasurer Bill Cherry gathered the children in the crowd around him as he spoke of Superman, telling them that he’s real and exists in every veteran.
“Our veterans epitomize the ultimate citizen,” added Assemblyman Lopez.
Following the Memorial Park services, a flag burning ceremony was held at the Cobleskill VFW.
