Cobleskill Clean-up and Earth Day Saturday

4/16/2008

Saturday is the day to make Cobleskill sparkle.
It’s Cobleskill’s annual Downtown Clean-Up and Earth Day celebration and gets under way at 8am in Centre Park.
Volunteers will gather then in the park and should bring work gloves, buckets, brooms and rakes. Garbage bags will be provided.
The volunteer workers will return to the park at 10am, when Earth Day events begin, with the theme of “going local and going green.”
There will be two tents in the park. The large one will house displays by Cornell Cooperative Extension, Girl Scouts, art made from trash, Selkirk Ace Hardware, The Community Library, Public Transportation, the Schoharie County Photographers Club, Renaissance Farmers Market and the Audubon Society, among others.
There will also be interactive workshops and activities “for kids of all ages.”
The small tent will be the setting for demonstrations on composting, tree-planting, search and rescue, bicycle repair, herbs, and spinning and weaving.
The Printers at the Times-Journal is providing supplies for DEC’s “New York Recycles” poster contest for kids.
“We’ll have the park pretty well filled up,” said Cynthia Wilson, one of the organizers.
Musician Skip West will perform in the gazebo at 1pm.
Citizens for a Clean Environment and Cobleskill Partnership Inc. are the main sponsors for the clean-up and celebration.
Also helping out are: Fenimore Asset Management, Kelley Farm and Garden, SUNY Cobleskill, Carpets and Then Some, The Donna Lavigne Agency and the Theater Project of Schoharie County.
