Of the four candidates in the running for just two Village of Cobleskill seats, one is already challenging the other.
Longtime trustee Carol McGuire has filed a “general challenge” to a petition filed by businessman Robert LaPietra.
Ms. McGuire and Mr. LaPietra, who unsuccessfully ran against then-incumbent Bill Gilmore and Mike Sellers in a 2005 race for mayor, are two of the four running for village trustee in November’s election.
Mr. Gilmore, elected last November to a one-year vacancy, is back on the ballot for a four-year trustee term.
Linda Holmes, long active in the Youth Commission, is the fourth trustee candidate.
The deadline for general challenges was 5pm Friday.
Ms. McGuire now has until Friday to file specific objections if she plans to continue the challenge.
Ms. McGuire said Monday she didn’t want to be more specific about her objections until she had a chance to look over Mr. LaPietra’s petition, which she can’t do till later today, Wednesday.
“I just have some concerns over procedural issues,” she said.
The deadline for candidate petitions was last Tuesday, August 19.
