Cherry Valley gets high with kites

Hundreds of high-flying fans took advantage of Cherry Valley’s winds Saturday to enjoy an all-day Kite Festival.
Located off Campbell Road, what’s become an annual event offered plenty of space—and wind—for multi-colored kites, some of them stories high; among them, a red elephant and a purple octopus.
Team iQuad, with members from across the United States, wowed the crowd with ballet-like demonstrations as their stunt kites soared overhead with battle-like precision before lining up toe-to-tail back on the ground.
Hay rides took visitors on a trip around town and back at the festival site, a handful of vendors offered everything from lunch to, you guessed it, kites.
A kids’ kite-building workshop at the Old School with Archie Stewart kicked off the day’s fun and an indoor kite fly at Cherry Valley-Springfield wrapped things up.
The Cherry Valley Kite Festival was an Artworks event made possible with funding from the New York State Council in the Arts, administered in Otsego County by the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts.
