ArtWalk! 10-4 Saturday
9/23/2008 |
By Jim Poole |
More than 30 artists and musicians will crowd Cobleskill’s sidewalks for the fourth annual ArtWalk! this Saturday.
Coordinated by the Tri-County Arts Council, ArtWalk! will run 10-4.
Artists will display textiles, sculpture, painting, jewelry and more while musicians perform at several sites along Main Street.
The Schoharie County Theater Project will have shakti bellydancers perform at 10:30 and 12:30, and John Dickson will give two Gonni drumming demonstrations at 11 and 12.
Judy Roberts will coordinate the Arts Council’s first sidewalk-drawing contest, with the Arts Council providing the materials. There’s a cost for adults and kids, and winners will receive gift certificates to Harmony Acres.
Paul Lamar, Susan Spivack and Ina Jones will read poetry at the Arts Council on Union Street, and an open mic will be available for other poets afterwards.
Sap Bush Hollow and guitarist John Scarpulla will perform in the afternoon.
The winner of Tony Murray’s name-that-sculpture contest will be announced, with the winner receiving a mixed-metal sculpture from Mr. Murray.
There will be free crafts for children and passports for them to get stamped at Main Street booths. A fully-stamped passport presented at the Arts Council will earn kids free ice cream at Stewart’s.
The Renaissance Farmer’s Market will be set up in part of the Union Street parking lot, but the rest of the lot will be available for ArtWalk! visitors.
Union Street was blocked off as a pedestrian walkway for last year’s ArtWalk!, but it will be open this year.
“It kind of created some problems,” said Katie Horn-Scarpulla of the Arts Council. “People would drive through town, see something going on, but have no place to park.”
“And it’s really become a Main Street event anyway,” added Arts Council Director Mark Eamer. “It will be very visible this year, with huge sculptures along Main Street.”
For more information or to reserve a booth on Main Street, call Ms. Horn-Scarpulla at the Arts Council, 254-0611.
