A 13-year-old Cobleskill boy was arrested last Tuesday on arson charges after a fire heavily damaged a truck trailer at the Fairgrounds on October 11, announced the Cobleskill Village Police.
The arrest came last Tuesday afternoon after a two-week investigation, police said.
Police and Cobleskill Fire Department personnel responded to a reported fire at the Fairgrounds at about 4pm on Saturday, October 11, police said. Upon arrival, a 16-foot flatbed trailer containing construction debris from renovations being done to the grandstand bathrooms was found to be on fire.
The fire was extinguished but the trailer was heavily damaged, police said.
Sergeant Rich Bialkowski said that some people were aware of the boy’s action and forwarded information to police, who interviewed a witness.
The boy, police said, confessed to the arson and was charged with fifth-degree arson, a Class A misdemeanor, and third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony.
He was issued an appearance ticket to appear at the Schoharie County Probation department on November 11 at 10am for further proceedings, police said.
