Coffee to go, please

Venison was almost on the menu at Coby’s Tuesday morning.
A deer crashed through the front door window of the Main Street, Cobleskill, café and apparently later made his escape.
The break-in happened just before 6am. Elm Street resident Ron Ruland, was riding his bike to the polls at the firehouse, where he was an election inspector.
“I turned the corner [from South Grand to Main], and there was this big deer on the sidewalk,” Mr. Ruland said. “I guess I startled him, and he crashed through Coby’s front door.”
Cut and bleeding, the deer ran to the inside back door of the café, then reversed and left the way he had arrived––through the front door.
“He went over towards Pizza Shack,” Mr. Ruland said, referring to the restaurant across the street.
The deer was not found, according to Cobleskill Police.
By 8am, workers at Coby’s had replaced the broken glass with clear plastic.
Manager Jerry Stacy said usually of one the employees, Connie Swick, would have been inside at the time of the deer’s visit.
“I’m just glad she was a little late this morning,” Mr. Stacy said. “It’s good we weren’t open yet and had customers. And I’m glad the deer didn’t panic and wreck the place.”
He reported little or no damage to the café.
