Cops arrest 2 in sign thefts

The Cobleskill Police Department arrested two people after investigation into the on-going theft/damage of business signs in the Main Street area.
Officers on patrol at about 1:45am on Sunday, witnessed several subjects damaging or taking business signs posted at the intersection of Division Street and Main Street.
Officers witnessed two women carrying the stolen signs, and stopped to inquire. The females fled on foot into an apartment in the area, and were caught by officers who pursued them on foot.
One of the stolen signs was owned by the Times-Journal newspaper, and one of the signs was owned by the Amvet’s veteran’s organization, police said.
Arrested were: Mandy D. Swartz, 19, of Attica and Cara M. Donovan, 19, of New Hartford, Connecticut, according to police.
Both were charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth-degree; and criminal mischief in the fourth-degree, both class A misdemeanors, police said.
Both were issued appearance tickets to appear in Village Court on December 9, at 4pm.
