Richmondville gets in the spirit

Richmondville got into the holiday spirit Saturday afternoon.
Kids, parents, Santa and more were all on hand for the annual community Christmas celebration.
Early in the afternoon, kids decorated trees in the firehouse while Melvin Adair treated families to wagon rides through the village.
Mayor Kevin Neary then followed a Richmondville tradition by reading “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to youngsters.
Then Santa arrived, courtesy of Mr. Adair’s horses and wagon. Little Jacob McAdam helped Santa light the outdoor trees, and then Santa met with children inside.
Organizers also announced winners in Richmondville’s holiday contests:
In the junior cookie division, winning $10 each, were Melissa Sawyer, first; Shelby Nelson, second; and Owen Nied, third.
In the adult cookie division:
First, Robin Mattice, winning a Pizza Shack gift certificate.
Second, Penny Nelson, winning a Reinhardt’s sub.
Third, Renee Swartout, also winning a Reinhardt’s sub.
The winner of the $50 tree-decorating prize was Goober’s Goo, which featured a honey-inspired theme.
Winners of the house-decorating contest were:
First, Renee and Chris Swartout, Brooker Hollow Road, winning $50.
Second, Sue Merwin, Furnaceville Road, winning a lawn ornament.
Third, a tie, Michelle Rundbled of 263 Summit Street, and Owen Nied, a treehouse at 929 Brooker Hollow Road, receiving $25.
