Friends for Schoharie County, formed in the wake of President Barack Obama’s landslide election, will meet Monday to “grill” the experts.
The group is hosting Alicia Terry of County Planning, Assemblyman Pete Lopez, and Chamber Director Jodie Rutt in a 7pm session pn March 16 at the Schoharie Presbyterian Church.
Bob Smith, one of the Friends’ organizers, said he’s hoping the trio will give those attending some ideas on where their help is needed most.
“I’m not trying to shove Obama in anyone’s face, but he’s the one who pointed out we all need to be a part of change,” Mr. Smith said.
“We’re not in opposition; we want to work with what’s already going on and we think these three will have some good ideas on where we can make the most difference.”
The Friends were formed at a party celebrating President Obama’s inauguration and about 30 people gathered at a follow-up meeting a few weeks later, Mr. Smith said.
“I was surprised, but I think a lot of people see this as a good time to get involved,” he said. “I’m one of those who believe it will take a while for things to start getting better—and it will take help from all of us.”
The Friends for Schoharie County is a community action group formed to identify local needs.
Participants will research and share their findings through public forums, hearings, and resolutions.
All are invited to Monday’s meeting.
