The Cobleskill Village Police arrested a Cobleskill man after a short vehicle pursuit and foot chase following a report of shots being fired on North Street last Tuesday night.
It turned out that no shots were fired but there was a dispute about the sale of narcotics, police said.
The Village Police gave the following description of the incident:
The Cobleskill Police were dispatched to 122 North Street for a report of possible gun shots at about 9:30pm last Tuesday.
When they arrived, Sergeant Lawrence Travis and Trooper Richard Albert observed a blue 1989 Cadillac parked with its driver’s side door open and several holes through the windshield along with significant damage to the interior of the vehicle.
They also observed a man sitting in another nearby vehicle.
When they approached the man to question him and ordered him to stop, he started his car and almost struck the officers while fleeing the scene.
His vehicle, a black 2001 Nissan, entered North Street heading south and was located going east on Main Street by Cobleskill officers Maynard Sullivan and Jeffrey Brown.
Several attempts were made to stop his vehicle on Main Street. The car then proceeded east on Barnerville Road.
The pursuit ended at the intersection of Barnerville and Grovenors Corners roads when the man fled from his car and was taken into custody by Officer Sullivan after a short foot pursuit.
Police said the man is alleged to have had a dispute regarding the purchase of narcotics with another person prior to this incident. No gun was located and the reported gun shot noise is believed to be from the defendant hitting a vehicle with a hammer.
Following the investigation, Thomas A. Haugh, 40, of Barnerville Road was arrested on charges of third-degree criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, both felonies, second-degree reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, unlawful possession of marijuana and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.
He was arraigned in front of Village Justice Richard Hamm and sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond to return to court on March 31.
Additional charges are pending, with the investigation continuing, police said.
