Cobleskill to clean up for Earth Day

4/15/2009

Cobleskill will sparkle after Saturday’s traditional Earth Day celebration.
The downtown volunteer clean-up will start at 8am, rain or shine, and in the late morning, a variety of activities will abound in Centre Park.
It’s open to all, and volunteers should bring rakes, gloves and brooms to the gazebo in Centre Park, where they’ll get cleaning assignments.
This year’s clean-up has been expanded by Ryan Kelley as his Eagle Scout project. (More information in story on page 4.)
The clean-up will last about two hours, and at 10am, activities in the park will include a kids’ fishing derby, 4-H petting zoo, trash art for kids, planting seeds and making bird feeders, bike decorating, tree planting, outdoor art, free bike tune-up and an “all wheels, no motors” parade around the park.
There will also be a tent with a variety of environmental displays, including the Audubon Society, SUNY Cobleskill Wildlife and Fisheries Clubs, Schoharie River Center, Schoharie Land Trust and others.
From noon to 1pm, there will be music by Speed the Plough.
Earth Day is organized by Citizens for a Clean Environment.
