Take Back the Night brings abuse home

Schoharie County again marked Take Back the Night on Thursday with speeches and ceremonies in Centre Park.
The event, the 10th, drew more than 75 people, including speaker Assemblyman Pete Lopez, who joined survivor Julie Wagar and Ed Guider, who grew up with domestic violence without realizing what it was, in stressing the need to talk about it.
Sue Zimmerman, Natasha Foote, Regine Niles, Bailey Renstrum, Megan Shanley, and John Jarvis were among those offering readings; representatives from agencies including Sexual Assault Support Services, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Schoharie County Domestic Violence, SUNY Cobleskill Wellness Center, Fleet and Family Support Center, and Child At Risk Response Team explained what related services they offer.
Musician Tom Wadsworth led the crowd in “Give Peace a Chance,” and a candlelight march followed.
