Summit crash snaps pole; man trapped

On Saturday at about 8am, Summit Fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to an accident on Route 10 in the Town of Summit.
Chief Don Clarke was the first on the scene and found a serious accident with a 26-year-old man trapped in the vehicle.
The truck had hit and snapped a telephone pole and the primary electric lines above the accident were on fire as rescuers worked to free the victim.
In addition to the Jaws of Life from the Summit department, a second set was requested from the Richmondville department. Rescue crews worked for almost two hours to free the victim from the truck.
National Grid crews arrived and shut down power and Chief Clarke requested a Life Net Helicopter to take the victim to the trauma center at Albany Medical Center. Route 10 was closed for over three hours until the pole was stabilized. Summit Fire and Rescue crews were assisted by the Richmondville Fire Department, Schoharie County EMS, Rural Metro EMS, Schoharie County Sheriff’s office and the State Police.
Officials said the victim is recuperating from his injuries at Albany Med.
