Yet another option for town offices

Now there’s a third option on the table for the Town of Cobleskill:
The village offices on Mineral Springs Road.
Trustees Tuesday authorized Mayor Mike Sellers to talk to Supervisor Roger Cohn about sharing space—and expenses—there.
With village staff numbers down, trustees said one possibility might be to have village and town employees working side-by-side in the same space; Village Clerk Sheila Gillespie, Town Clerk Tina Shuart and Town Deputy Clerk Tracey Cleveland in Ms. Gillespie’s office, for example, and Town Codes Officer Pete Irwin joining Village Codes Officer Mike Piccolo in his.
Another set-up could have the town moving into the village’s first-floor meeting space, a possibility explored a while ago but discarded as not enough space.
Mr. Cohn said he mentioned the idea to Mayor Sellers “in passing” and both agreed it was an idea worth exploring.
“The more I look at it...the more I think it’s worth taking another look at,” Mr. Cohn said.
The town is still interested in buying 107 Union Street, but Mr. Cohn said they haven’t yet made an offer on it due to “environmental” concerns, namely asbestos.
Mr. Cohn and councilmen are also expecting to hear from the Cobleskill Partnership at their meeting this Monday on that organization’s bid to have the town move into the old Newberry’s Building.
“This is another option,” Mr. Cohn said. “I’m continuing to hear from people who think, in these economic times, it might not be a good idea to take 107 Union off the tax rolls.”
Mr. Cohn said he hasn’t yet taken the idea of sharing space with the village to councilmen, but he thinks it’s another option.
“And I’ve always said, we can always just stay where we are,” on Shad Point, he added.
