Saturday Cabaret Habitat benefit
7/22/2009 |
Schoharie United Presbyterian Church will hold its fifth Cabaret Talent Showcase on Saturday, July 25 at 7pm.
The Cabaret will feature amateur performers of all ages from around the county. It will be held outside under big tents.
Dessert will be served during intermission.
The theme for this year’s production is “Schoharie County: There’s No Place Like Home.”
The cabaret show will explore a family’s desire to “get away” on vacation and all the places in the world and across this country that they could travel.
The audience will be transported from London, England, California, Nashville, New York City and numerous stops in between with song, dance, humor and comedic dialogue.
The production team this year chose to approach the production differently by having a core cast and invited guests to portray that there is no place like home in Schoharie County.
The acts range from clogging, dancers, vocalists and instrumentalists. Sharon Beck will also accompany on piano.
The age ranges of those performing are as greatly varied; elementary school to retired citizens. The lineup of performers promises to be entertaining, enjoyable and family-friendly for a hot summer night. The entire cast will perform opening and closing songs related to the theme “Schoharie County: There’s No Place Like Home.”
Dessert is included with the price of the show and will be served during the intermission. There is an admission charge.
A barbeque chicken dinner will be held before the show from 4:30-6:30pm. Dinner will include a chicken half, pasta salad, tossed salad, baked beans and beverages. Take outs are available.
The dinner will be held in the Christian Education building of the church.
The cabaret, not only showcases local talent, but is also a fundraiser.
This year’s cabaret will benefit the Habitat for Humanity of Schoharie County.
Currently, Habitat is in the preliminary stages of building a new house in the Town of Seward.
Habitat builds affordable housing for qualifying partner families. The partner family has to invest several hundred hours of sweat equity during the building of the house and then is provided a zero percent loan for the mortgage.
The cabaret will take place on the grounds of the Schoharie United Presbyterian church, 314 Main Street in Schoharie (directly across from Stewart’s). The cabaret will be outside, under a tent. Folks are asked to park behind the old Post Office (use Cemetery Lane entrance.) The church parking lot is being reserved for handicap parking.
