Cobleskill native new C-R biz manager

Cobleskill-Richmondville dipped into the local talent pool for its new business manager.
School board members last week appointed Cobleskill High grad Melissa Morlang to the post. She replaces Howard Anderson, who retired early this summer.
Ms. Morlang’s combination of experience and community interest attracted C-R officials, Superintendent Lynn Macan said.
“Melissa has a strong financial background, she lives in the community, she’s invested here and has two kids in the district,” Ms. Macan said.
“She’ll have an impact on the community at large, and she wants to be here long-term.”
Ms. Morlang feels the same way, saying she wanted to work and help in the district where her children go to school.
“I want to participate here and have a positive impact,” she said. “These are challenging times, but I think with my experience, I can bring some new ideas to the district.”
Ms. Morlang most recently was assistant comptroller at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Before that, she was director of finances for the Montgomery Otsego Schoharie Solid Waste Management Authority for 11 years.
Earlier jobs included being senior accountant at the Jardine Group Services, Treasury/Special Projects Assistant at JD Edwards & Co., senior accountant at The Lawrence Group and senior associate at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Ms. Morlang earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Bently College. She also received designation as a Certified Public Account in 1995.
She is pursuing coursework towards certification as a School District Business Leader.
Ms. Morlang and her husband, Craig, have two children: Dylan, who’ll be entering sixth grade, and Emma, going into fourth grade.
Ms. Morlang, 42, will earn $85,000.
