DeFreitas guilty of 3rd degree rape

A Schoharie County Court jury found a Conesville man guilty of six counts including third-degree rape Monday at the conclusion of a trial that began the end of August.
Desmond DeFreitas, 41, was found guilty on charges of one count of third-degree criminal sexual act, an E felony, two counts of third-degree rape, an E felony, one count of second-degree burglary, a C felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, according to a court official.
He was found not guilty of nine charges including: two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, two counts of petty larceny, three counts of second-degree burglary, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of third-degree criminal solicitation, the county official said.
DeFreitas is scheduled to be sentenced in County Court on December 2.
The trial began with jury selection on August 31 and closing arguments were made on Thursday.
DeFreitas was accused of sexually abusing an underage girl.
