Turkeys and diners top the wish list for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner Committee as members plan for next week’s community meal.
The volunteer committee is looking for donations of turkeys and reservations for people looking to gather on Thanksgiving Day.
The dinner will be at 1pm at Boreali’s Restaurant in Howes Cave.
This is the 22nd year for the dinner, which is put together entirely with donations.
“Right now, we’re looking for donations of turkeys, 20 to 25 pounds,” said committee member Kevin Neary.
He said the turkeys should be frozen. Donors can call the county Office for the Aging at 295-2001 to contribute a turkey or deliver it right to Boreali’s.
Because the committee must purchase most of the food, members are also seeking monetary donations, Mr. Nearly said.
Reservations are slow in coming this year, Mr. Neary added. Anyone who plans to attend can make a reservation by calling the Office for the Aging at the above number.
The committee also uses a network of volunteers to home-deliver hot Thanksgiving meals. Anyone who wants one should call the OFA, also at 295-2001.
The dinner is for anyone who would otherwise be alone or for those who want to get together with friends to give thanks.
It’s free and open to all.
“Thanksgiving is supposed to be a festival of sharing. . .that was the original intent, and that’s what we continue,” Mr. Neary said.
Joining the many volunteers who help out are members of the Cobleskill-Richmondville Future Business Leaders of America, who are collecting donations and plan to work at the dinner.
Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation can make the check payable to the Thanksgiving Day Dinner Committee and mail it care of Kevin Neary, PO Box 177, Richmondville, 12149.
