Joleen Henderson, 36, of Sprakers, the girlfriend of accused murderer Gerry King, and her mother, Alice Williams, 72, of Sharon Springs, have both been charged as accomplices in the murder of George King.
Ms. Henderson, of Carlisle Road, Sprakers, conspired to destroy physical evidence, according to State Police, and was charged with:
• First-degree hindering prosecution
• Tampering of evidence.
• Fourth-degree conspiracy.
• Endangering the welfare of a child.
Ms. Williams, of Beechwood Road, Sharon Springs, loaned Gerry King the van he used to flee New York State, troopers said.
Both were arraigned before Town of Sharon Justice Evelyn Falsarella.
Ms. Henderson was sent to Schoharie County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail and $50,000 bond.
Ms. Williams was released in her own recognizance; Ms. Henderson has since made bail.
George King was found beaten to death in his Staleyville Road, Sharon Springs home by a neighbor who’d been asked to check on him after he failed to show up for work at about 5:30pm November 16.
That’s the same day, police said, Gerry King, Ms. Henderson, her 13-year-old son, and Ms. Williams fled in Ms. Williams’ van, traveling first to Massachusetts and then on to Connecticut, where they were stopped the next day, Tuesday, the 17th.
Four investigators from the New York State Police flew to the Connecticut State Police barracks at Troop B in North Canaan, where the three adults were interviewed.
Gerry King waived extradition and was returned to New York, where he was charged with second-degree murder in his father’s death.
Ms. Henderson and Ms. Williams were released to return home with the 13-year-old as troopers continued to follow leads and develop information that led them to make the additional arrests Tuesday, November 24.
A felony hearing for Gerry King that had been set for the 23rd was cancelled; the case is expected to go directly to Schoharie County Grand Jury after lab tests from the scene are completed.
