Town moves back to village

The Town of Cobleskill has a new home.
The Village of Cobleskill.
Starting at about noon last Tuesday, village and town workers, Mayor Mark Nadeau among them, began moving the town out of its offices at Shad Point and into the space it’ll be renting from the village on Mineral Springs Road.
By Thursday, Town Clerk Tina Shuart was just about settled in her new space, the old village Codes Office and just down the hall from Village Clerk Shelia Gillespie.
“It’s all in the name of efficiency,” said Mayor Nadeau, as he helped arrange furniture.
“It’s going to work well for all of us, having everyone in the same building.”
Ms. Shuart credited Mayor Nadeau for getting the ball moving on the move and for making it as easy as possible.
“It’s a nice space,” she said. “We’re looking forward to being here.”
Though the town’s physical location is 376 Mineral Springs Road, it will have a new mailing address: PO Box 327, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
Ms. Shuart’s phone number has also been changed to 234-7719; fax is 234-2068, email is coby1@nycap.rr.com.
Numbers for deputy Clerk Tracy Cleveland are the same, but her email is coby2@nycap.rr.com.
Mayor Nadeau said he’s continuing to count up the savings generated by the move.
Eliminating extra phone lines and a postage meter, he said, have saved the municipalities about $5,000.
“We’re still working to find more,” he said.
The town board will meet downstairs in the old village meeting space—where town and village Codes are now sharing space; the village will now be meeting in the fire house.
The village clerk;s office remains unmoved; Mayor Nadeau and Supervisor-Elect Tom Murray will share the old mayor’s space.
The space arrangement and other common concerns will be discussed at a special joint meeting January 19.
