A neighbor rescued a 90-year-woman from a bedroom window after fire broke out at her Broome home last Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, who was not named by fire officials, suffered only singed hair, said Livingstonville Fire Chief Jason Wayman.
She was checked out by EMS personnel on the scene of the fire on Mattice Road, but was not hospitalized and was staying at her daughter’s home. No one was injured in the fire at the Olbert home which broke out at about 5pm.
The woman was alerted to the fire by Martin Livingston who then opened a front bedroom window and then pulled the woman to safety through the window, Chief Wayman said.
The fire, which was electrical in nature and was accidental, was confined to the rear of the building, the Chief said.
The two-story wooden home suffered smoke and water damage but is salvageable, Chief Wayman said.
Firefighters did an excellent job confining the fire and putting it out before it spread, he added.
Firefighters from three different departments were at the scene for about three hours.
About 40 to 50 fire personnel from the Livingstonville, Tri-Village and Middleburgh departments, along with the county FAST team were at the scene on the short road off of Route 145, the Chief said. Firefighters from Schoharie and Huntersland were on standby.
