If the state can spare it next year, Middleburgh may get up to $10,000 for new gateway signs welcoming drivers into the town.
Board members at their year-end meeting Monday agreed to apply for a $10,000 member item through State Senator James Seward’s office for new gateway signs for the “community of Middleburgh.”
The signs will reflect the history of Middleburgh and could be in place by the 300th anniversary of the founding of Middleburgh in 2012.
Supervisor Dennis Richards also noted that the gateway signs were part of the town’s comprehensive plan.
Unfortunately, with the state’s finances in a flux, there is no guarantee that the town will get any or all of the money, officials said.
Mr. Richards said that while there is no guarantee on the funds, if the town gets some of the money, it may be enough for at least gateway signs at two of the four major entrances into the town.
Officials noted that it may not be a good year for member items at the state level.
