Cobleskill-Richmondville has checked and tightened up its cyber security on bank accounts.
Superintendent Lynn Macan described the process to board members Monday night.
The action––which many other districts in the region did, also––came in response to the computer hacker who stole huge sums from Duanesburg Central School’s bank accounts last month.
C-R’s first step, Ms. Macan said, was to talk to the district’s banks to discover what kind of controls are over fund transfers.
“We are confident with the institutions with which we do business,” Ms. Macan said.
The second step had C-R check recent account activity.
“There was nothing in appropriate,” Ms. Macan said, adding that the district will monitor regularly to strengthen controls and review.
The third step asked whether a recent audit by the state Comptrollers office had any recommendations for cyber security.
Although the audit touched on safeguarding computerized data, it made no recommendations about cyber security for bank accounts.
C-R’s cyber security information is on the Cobleskill-Richmondville website under the budget tab on the left side of the home page.
