An Amish eye for the horses

Everyone at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds Saturday shared at least one thing:
An eye for good horses.
And from the ponies who gave their young Amish handlers a good run for their money to draft teams with coats like gold, there was something for every eye.
The event was a benefit for several Amish K-8 schools near Richfield Springs.
The auction had been held in Jordanville, said Mervin Byler, one of the organizers, but that property has been sold.
Based on Saturday’s success, the Amish will likely move their annual fall auction to Cobleskill as well.
That auction typically includes machinery too; the sale Cobleskill featured horses and tack.
Joe Purcell, who helped with the event from the Fairgrounds’ end, said the Amish accepted outside consignments and some horses came from as far away as Maine.
