34th R'ville Days starts Friday

6/1/2010

Richmondville will revisit its past—and have a good time doing it—when it hosts its 34th annual Richmondville Days this Friday through Sunday with the theme, “Horseshoes, Rails & Wheels.”
Festivities will kick off Friday with a chicken BBQ by the Richmondville Fire Department volunteers, starting at 4pm and running until it’s gone.
At 6pm there will be a Little League game at the Richmondville Little League Field.
Saturday, June 5 will begin with a pancake breakfast at the Lutheran Church from 7-9:30am.
The parade, which features entries from all around the region, will step off at 10am; organizers are seeking parade participants and floats are especially encouraged.
Parade entry forms are available from Gary Rightmyer, 294-6550, Deb Haslun, 294-6460, or Lisa Crapser, 294-7112.
The fire department’s Buffalo Chip Challenge will be near the Radez School parking lot from noon-2pm.
At 1pm, teams will vie for bragging rights as winners of the 7th annual Richmondville Days Bed Races.
Throughout the day, there will be children’s games, bounce houses, Freckles the clown, snap together model cars, appearances by Sparkles the tall juggler and Magic Dan the magician, and the Richmondville Trolley will be available for rides to event venues.
At 11:30am, the JD Winslow Horse Show will perform at Radez School; also a 11:30am will be the first-ever chocolate jumble cookie-decorating contest; more details on that are on page 19.
In addition, there will be a bake sale and rummage sale, classic and antique car show, and the Bunn Mill will be open for tours and with vendors including a weaver, spinner, and broom maker.
Saturday will wrap up with a spaghetti dinner at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church from 4-6pm, a major girls’ softball game at 6pm, and a fireworks display behind the Radez School at 9pm.
Sunday will begin with an ecumenical church service, followed by the Historical Society pork roast, an old-fashioned ice cream social, and live Celtic music at the Bunn Mill.
