David Huse killed in tractor-car accident

David Huse, 57, of Warnerville, was killed Monday night in Carlisle after the tractor he was driving was struck head-on by a car on Little York Road.
According to State Police, Mr. Huse, a well-known beef farmer at Stone Broke Farms, died of massive trauma injuries after being thrown from the tractor, a Massey Ferguson without a cab, in the 6:40pm accident.
Schoharie County Sheriff Tony Desmond was already at the scene when troopers arrived to find the tractor and an attached haybine upside down on the side of the road.
The car, a 2008 four-door Chevrolet Cobalt, was in the road.
Troopers said the driver of the car, 20-year-old Courtney Chichester of Little York Road, Carlisle, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the front of Mr. Huse’s tractor, taking part of it off.
The tractor flipped over backwards, they said, throwing Mr. Huse off, before the tractor came to rest on top of him.
Schoharie County Coroner Donna McGovern pronounced Mr. Huse dead at the scene.
Funeral services are pending and are incomplete at this time.
Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and more information will be available online at merenessputnamfuneralhome.com.
A complete obituary will appear in next week’s Times-Journal.
Troopers said Ms. Chichester and a front seat passenger, Joshua France, 19, of Cobleskill, were taken to Cobleskill Regional Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Both were wearing seatbelts.
A back seat passenger, Kate Haag, 19, of Richmondville, was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police said the force of the collision threw Ms. Haag, head-first, into the front windshield.
She was taken to the Duanesburg Airport and airlifted by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, where she is listed in stable condition.
The Carlisle and Central Bridge Fire Departments and Rescue Squads responded to the scene.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting Cobleskill troopers with a continuing investigation into the accident.
As of press time, no charges have yet been filed.
