A Summit man was seriously injured in an ATV accident Thursday afternoon in the Town of Summit.
The Schoharie County Sheriff’s office reported that deputies received a 911 transfer call from Delaware County at about 1:30pm Thursday about a personal injury ATV rollover accident on Dead End Road in the Town of Summit.
Deputies responded to the scene and found Alfred Contarino, 54, of Summit suffering from chest pains, police said. The passenger on the ATV, John Laterza, 20, of Mt. Sinai, was uninjured. Both men were not wearing helmets.
Police said it appears that the men were operating the ATV, a 2010 Polaris, for the first time and upon approaching a hill, the ATV overturned landing on the driver. Mr. Contarino was transported to Albany Medical Hospital by helicopter for possible internal injuries.
Emergency crews from Charlotteville fire, Summit fire and ambulance, Cobleskill ALS, and State Forest Rangers assisted at the scene, police said.
Tickets are expected to be issued for lack of proper safety equipment and lack of insurance, police said.
