Woman killed in deer-motorcycle crash

An Ames woman was killed in a motorcycle-deer accident Saturday in a dangerous weekend on Route 10 in the Town of Sharon.
The fatal accident was the first of two serious accidents on the stretch just south of the Schoharie-Montgomery county line.
Cynthia Wall, 48, of Ames was riding a motorcycle on Route 10 about a mile south of the county line at about 8pm when she hit a deer, police said.
She was traveling north on the road when the deer entered from the shoulder of the road, police said.
She was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy was to be conducted at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, police said.
The State Police investigated a serious two-car accident not far from the scene from the fatal about six hours later.
Police said Jeffrey Johnson, 19, of Sharon Springs was driving north on Route 10 at about 2:04am when his car went over the center line and side-swiped a car being driven south by J. Belak, of Tampa, Florida.
Mr. Belak was uninjured but Mr. Johnson and a passenger in his car, Sarah Key, 20, of Sharon were both injured, police said.
Police did not have the extent of their injuries but said they were taken to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Mr. Johnson was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said, and is to return to Sharon court.
